Bio / Contact

Ian Vanek (Born 1980, WA) lives and works as an artist, drummer, and organizer in the Universe.

Vanek was half of the performance art duo Japanther, which he co-founded during his time as a student at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. Vanek’s practice encompasses a fascination with architecture, machinery and imaginary cityscapes. His process is informed by the characters he encounters along his travels, resulting in work that tells the stories of worlds filled with play, amorous joy, wild abandon, and childish curiosity.

Vanek is currently teaching experimental sound classes, touring the country with his band, Howardian, and publishing his longstanding zine, 99mm.
